Great Briton shot-putter Scott Lincoln carved his name into British athletics history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, producing a landmark performance that secured eighth place in the men’s shot put final — the best finish ever by a British thrower at the global showpiece.
Lincoln, entered the championships off the back of a strong summer season and carried that momentum into Tokyo. He produced a throw of 21.00 metres in qualification, a distance good enough to secure his spot in the final — ending a 16-year wait for a British male shot-putter to reach a World or Olympic final.
In the final itself, with another 21.00m effort, demonstrating impressive composure on one of the sport’s biggest stages. That throw secured him eighth place overall, surpassing all previous British performances in the event at the World Championships.
“This is a massive step forward for me,” Lincoln said afterwards. “It shows I can mix it with the very best. I know there’s more to come, and this gives me huge confidence heading into next season. I don’t think I’m far away from being in medal territory.”
The result underlines Lincoln’s steady rise. A multiple British champion with a personal best of 21.31m, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of the event in the UK. His Tokyo breakthrough now places him firmly among the international elite.
For British athletics, Lincoln’s success is more than just a personal milestone it represents a resurgence in an event where global competition is fierce. With the shot put traditionally dominated by American and European powerhouses, his achievement signals that Team GB may finally have a contender capable of challenging for medals on the world stage.
As the 2025 season draws to a close, Lincoln will return to training with his coach Paul Wilson, buoyed by the knowledge that history is already on his side. The next step, as he has made clear, is pushing closer to the podium.
“This is just the beginning,” Lincoln insisted. “The belief is there now — and I know I can go further.”

With such a huge monumental development in the athletic throwing community here in the United kingdom, it is a real shame broadcasting companies take little to no interest in throwing in the UK especially with an amazing story such as this one from Scott, I myself would of loved to of see the throw, even a nice interview after the competitions. My congratulations to Scott, a huge achievement.
