Tokyo, September 2025 – The men’s javelin throw qualification at the World Athletics Championships lived up to expectations, with reigning champions, rising stars, and surprise contenders all battling for a place in the final.

The automatic qualifying mark was set at 84.50 m, and several big names cleared it in style. Grenada’s Anderson Peters looked in supreme form, producing the day’s best throw of 89.53 m, sending an early message to his rivals. Close behind, Germany’s Julian Weber (87.21 m) and Kenya’s Julius Yego (85.96 m) also booked their spots with confident performances.

From Asia, fans were treated to an electric show. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra of India eased through qualification with his very first attempt, a smooth 84.85 m that guaranteed safe passage. His teammate Sachin Yadav joined him in the final, finishing among the top 12 with a best of 83.67 m. However, fellow Indians Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav fell short of the cut.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem gave the crowd a dramatic moment. After struggling with his first two throws (76.99 m and around 74 m), the 2023 World Champion found his rhythm in his last attempt, launching the spear to 85.28 m to punch his ticket to the final.

Other strong qualifiers included Dawid Wegner of Poland (85.67 m), while a handful of contenders advanced without meeting the 84.50 m standard, ensuring the 12-man final field was complete.

With Chopra, Peters, Nadeem, Weber, and Yego all in form, the stage is set for a blockbuster final. The clash promises not only a battle for medals but also for pride, as some of the sport’s fiercest rivals meet again in Tokyo’s National Stadium.

The men’s javelin final will be one of the marquee events of the championships, with the potential to deliver another chapter in what has become one of athletics’ most thrilling rivalries.
